If your training for size you need carbs to support growth FACT, carbs = energy and for intense workouts you will need energy to achieve heavy weights, it's not all about protein intake!!
A simple way to define a good carb is to look at it as if to say if I add water to it does it expand
Bread = Yes Nuts/ Rye Bread = No So go with carbs that don't expand.
I always carb up before a weights session, I'm going for size so incorporating heavy compound workouts, so I take 50g carbs (Gluten free oat) in with a protein shake blended with ice half hour before I start.
Than after my work out again my body needs carbs but I take simple carbs like dextrose with protein or easier take an all in one shake which usually consist of quick release carbs as your body craving them, it's essential if your training for size to carb up at these times.
When I'm going on a cutting cycle I do lower my carbs and a do more CV sessions.
All this is personal opinion and practice.
